scopes
I'm wanting the best scope for no more than $750.00(unless there is a real standout that is worth an extra $50.00-$100.00).
I have a Leupold picked out. It is the VX III 4.5-14x50mm Long Range Side Focus with a 30mm Tube. I was also wondering if the illuminated model is worth the extra money.
I was also looking into Sightron but I can't seem to find a lot of information about them. Can anyone help me out here? Are they as good as Leupold?
Are there any other brands I should look at?
I'm using this for big game and varmint hunting, maybe some target shooting (nothing serious). The gun I am using is a Remington Model 700 308.
Any information/suggestions would be helpful.

leupold and nikon are both good choices. you will need to determine what kind of shooting you will be doing. a 3x9 will serve you well for general shooting. a 4x12, 6x18, are excellent varmint, target variations while the 24x, 36x, are for benchrest applications. 0 -

anything illuminated makes a big difference when used in hunting applications. Most shots are taken when the illuminated reticle would have been beneficial. I have an illuminated dot reticle, which is also a standard duplex reticle during daylight, in a burris 4-16x44mm on my meat gun. The dot has put lot's of meat in the freezer that would not have been possible otherwise.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Had a Nicon break once and could NOT get the Co. to Back up their warenty. Burris and Leupold Warenty's are great. 0 -
Don't overlook Swift, unless money is not an issue for you. Swift is inexpensive, because they don't advertise. (Which is why many have not heard of them) But eye relief and light transmission is comparable to Leupold and they have a great replacement guarantee.

I had heard that the origianl offering by Nikon had problems with warranty work, but that as of late, the company has become much more accomodating. I don't know from experience, but maybe someone could chime in with a recent experience. If there glass is as nice as has been stated, I would hate to condemn them based on some warranty problems from the past. May be a good source for a topic. Anyone???
