Browning Rifle Stock Finish

Good Morning All,I have a Browning rifle stock that is scratched with some of the gloss finish damaged, that I want to refinish. I was wondering if the Browning High Gloss is a laquer or possibly a polyurethane finish? Does anyone know what would be the best way to remove the factory finish? (as in which removal product would work the best) Any assistance is appreciated.

  Don't you hate those synthetic finishes?
  
  I have a similar problem with a Browning stock, but was unsuccessful at repairing it I tried to fill in with polyurethane, but that didn't work; at first it soaked into the wood, then built up a "mound" that I couldn't level. I consulted with several experts, but no one came up with anything that would work. I think that they must dip the wood repeatedly in some kind of polymer at the factory. I think that you can strip the old finish with paint stripper, but you'd have to remove the stock from the gun and take off the recoil pad/butt plate.
  
  If I went to that much trouble, I'd refinish it with hand-rubbed tung oil instead of redoing the synthetic.

  I would ask Browning, I am sure they will tell you what sort of product it is and what is the best solvent to use in stripping.

  Hey, you could always refinish it like my Dad taught me. Scrape the old finish off, down to bare wood, with a piece of broken glass. Sand, sand, sand. Use tung or boiled linseed oil, hand rubbed, and OOOO steel wool between coats..........or you could just spray it on. Sounds like too much work now that I think about it.
