Need a good gunsmith!

I need a good gunsmith to analyze a problem I'm having with a 1886 Winchester. The upper tang was welded many years ago, but it fits well in the stock. The action works well, but when the lever is all the way up, in the fire position, The lever will drop just slightly and the bolts drop down about a 1/16". Also I notice that the finger ring of the lever is not exactly parallel with the lower tang. It is slighty wider forward, i.e. the rear of the finger lever touches the tang.

What holds the rifle in the up and locked position?
Is it the friction stud on the lever?
Could the area where the frition stud meets the receiver be worn?

I have disassembled the rifle several time and can't see any appreciable wear. What do I do next?

  the friction stud and spring are the first things to check, if the stut is worn or the spring is weak you will have this problem. also the lever may be bent or the area the friction stud contacts may be worn.
