Please settle an argument if you would. What was the make and model of the revolver Steve McQueen carried in "Bullit"? Found a web page that decrees it was a Colt and have a friend who is quite knowledgable about S&W's and he insists it was a M19. Can you help?

I am afraid that I only watch that movie to see the car chase through San Francisco city streets and I can't recall what handgun Steve McQueen carried in that particular film. You might ask this same question over on the General discussion forum- they have some motion picture experts over there.

The Mustang and Charger chase is the reason I would watch the film again. (I have not seen it since it came out.) I do not recall the firearm at all. I would guess it is a Smith & Wesson since Colt was pretty much out of the police market by the late 1960s, except for Detective Specials and Cobras as undercover or backup guns. The Model 19 was extremely popular as a police firearm in those days and would be a good guess.
Like MC, I really do not know, so someone else will have to rent the film and watch to see if the firearm can be identified.0 -
Thank you both. A definitive answer has become almost an obsession with gun nuts who are fans of the movie. The problem is that there are only a few glimpses of the revolver and Smith and Colt fans alike point to various features as proof that the hero was armed with "their" flavor of revolver. If you ever have the occasion to see the film again, take a look and see if you can tell which brand he carries. 0 -
Maybe if you could "Pause" or "Still Frame" the particular bits or scenes of the movie, where the gun is shown; you'd be able to identify the gun.
I do not have a copy of the movie, but will see if I can round one up.
