M1991A1
I have a Series 80 M1991A1 Colt. When I have the original magazine (7 rounds) in the pistol (magazine is empty) and retract the slide the action will lock in the open position, i.e. the slide lock engages. However, when I put a different magazine in (7 round, empty, has Colt engraved on bottom side) the slide will not lock in the open position. I have not tried these two magazines at the range, so I don't know how they will act when the last round is shot. I am concerned about this because in a rapid reload situation I want the slide to remain open. Any comments, opinions or suggestions are welcomed.

Could be a weak mag spring or bent follower in the mag.CW

Chiller, I have the exact same pistol. The two Colt mags that came with the gun do the same thing as yours. The follower is not forward enough to engage the slide stop. I worked on the followers a little, but couldn't get them to work %100. They always fed fine, but the slide wouldn't always lock open after the last round was fired. Frustrated, I quit using them. I'm tempted to send them to Colt with a note that says only "Your mags don't work" The $5.99 aftermarket mags that I have work fine, all of the time. 0 -
Well, I am glad the mags I bought were used. I guess I will just have to invest in some aftermarket mags. Thanks! 0 -
OK, OK, what is a good reliable brand mag for the M1991A1? 0 -
I use Wilson or McCormick in my 1991A1. They work in just about every Colt 1911 style. 0
