What's a 550 round sealed tin of 7.62 x 39 on stripper clips worth? The guy who has it seems to think it's worth a premium.

  I just won a rifle in a caliber I've never heard of, .35 Whelen??? A Ruger 77 Mk II. Guessing by the other Mk II's on the auction, this is worth around $400?? But where the heck will I find ammo for it?

  Congratulations O'Reilly, I never win anything.
  The 35 Whelen is listed in RCBS's catalogue, however it is in the "Wildcat" section. You could probably get brass from one of the specialty suppliers, but you may be forming your own. I do not know what cases are used to make the 35.

  The .35 Whealen is a fine old cartridge designed by Townsend Whealen back in the 20s or 30s. He a an Army Armorer who designed cartiges and wrote articles for the AMERICAN RIFLEMAN and OUTDOOR LIFE. This cartdrige was formed from 30-06 brass necked up to .358 caliber, no other changes. It was designed to be a poor mans .375 H&H. Remington standardized this cartridge a few years ago, and I think they still sell it.

  Pack rat hit it right on the nose. The cheapest way is to fire form 30-06 brass.

  According to Cartridges of tne World, 9th. Edition, Remington standardized the .35 Whelen as a factory chambering in 1987. The book shows a 200gr. SP load @ 2675 FPS and a 250 gr. SP @ 2400 FPS.

  Pack Rat is right, Just run 30-06 brass in to whelen Die and reload. It's a very fine round for large animals.

  Remington .35 Whelan brass is $33.20 per hundred from Huntington's.
  Remington bullets are $115.98 per thousand.
  The dies are now standard Group A from RCBS and others I'm sure.
