    It's a 30-30. No suffix stamped, just "Model 336".

    I need to know the date of manufacture for one too please! A 336 in 30-30 serial number: 71 187959 The old guy that sold me the varminter this AM has one with the nicest wood and in the best shape I ever seen one in! And he wants to sell it. Has a Redfield 4x on it. GHD

    GHD yours was made in 71. until 1973 Marlins first two digits are the year of mfg. after that. take the first two digits and subtract them from 100.

    I hope I got this right. They have a section for the 336 and early Marlin Lever rifles. I dont know if this link goes to the page or links to it. It is in my fav. list and says dates of manufacture.

    Great link Queeksdraw! My old Marlin 336A in .32 Win Special did not fit the "first two numbers for the year of manufacture" that trsmith5 mentioned. Found that mine was made in 1949 from your link. Bookmarked it, thanks again!

    GHS, sorry, I failed to mention that marlins made from 69-72 was the year model on the serial #.
    from 46-68 they had letters: 46-c, 47-D, 48-E, 49-F,50-G, 51-H 52-J,
    53-K, 54-L, 55-M, 56-N, 57-P,58-R, 59-S, 60-T, 61-U, 62-V, 63-W, 64-YZ, 65-AA, 66 AB, 67-AC,68-AD.

    GHD & All, they have been building this site for over a year with new guns comming all the time. Some time I look up a gun and see a new one or two they have added. I cant wait till they start S&W's that will save me a few bucks.

    Year of manuf. can be found from 1946-1968 by the following letter or numeral prefix:
    1946-C, 1947-D, 1948-E, 1949-F, 1950-G, 1951-H, 1952-J, 1953-K, 1954-L, 1955-M, 1956-N,
    1957-P, 1958-R, 1959-S, 1960-T, 1961-U, 1962-V, 1963-W, 1964-Y, Z, 1965-AA, 1966-AB,
    1967-AC, 1968-AD, 1969-69, 1970-70, 1971-71, 1972-72.
    Starting with 1973, the year can be found by subtracting the first two digits of the ser. # from 100.
    (Ser #20049312 for instance would be 100-20 = 1980 model)
