Ruger semi-auto in .17 HMR

Does anybody know whether Ruger plans to produce a version of the 10/22 chambered in .17 HMR? I looked on their website and couldn't find any information on the subject.

  I think this will depend entirely on weather this little cartridge catchs on or not. If it becomes very popular, Ruger will in all likelyhood, built an auto loader. When the .22 mag came along, it started out in bolt rifles. Now it can be had in singles,autos,revolvers, and auto pistols. I imagine the .17 will appear in the same configurations if popularity makes it economically fiesable. However, if the market strength does not materialize, Gun makers can be quite hesitant to invest in the R&D for further models.
  It's actually up to the gun buying public.

  Dolomite, This topic has been discussed in great detail by members of another forum(Rugerforum.com). Ruger has admitted to doing quite a bit of research into the marketing and building of a 10/17 and it looks like it will possibly be here in a year or two. In the meantime
  Volquartson(the Ruger accurizing company) has already started converting 10/22s into .17HMR. You can get a complete gun with a match grade bull bbl and nice stock for around $800. Yes, the price is high but you could easily spend just as much putting Volquartson parts on a regular 10/22.

  Dolomite,,,,If you want one right now you can simply get a 10/22magnum and purchase the valqurson 17HMR barrel for it.They will even use the same magazine.Cabelas has the barrell but you could probably find it cheaper if you looked around a bit. Just an idea for you.

  A couple of the guys have mentioned Volquartsen http://volquartsen.com/default.asp?cat=17+HMR... (The link won't work correctly here because it has a + in it, where the space then HMR is, put a + in there without a space).
  I think they are THE best company for 10/22 accuracy equipment. You can buy a complete .17 HMR gun from them, or just the barrels to convert your own .22 mag. Their stuff isn't cheap (especially the entire gun), but I think they are arguably second-to-none.

  I too would like one, I think the 10/22 is one of the finest semi-auto .22's and love every variation in every caliber they make. I have no doubt they will come out with a .17. I've shot the round and think it will catch on nicely. I would love to see a semi-auto come out but if you're like most people you can't afford or don't want to afford to spend 800+ on a .17 when Ruger can do the job for the same affordable price as the rest of their carbines. Just my 2 cents.
