need help : BLUE BOOK and the real world
Need a quick lesson regarding values of rifles ie Sakos and HK 300's
I've been looking for a HK 300 22 mag and a Sako 22 hornet . Seems the going price is about double from what the 23rd edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values says these rifles are worth vs. advertised for sale prices?I have noticied a local gun store sells and refers to this publication. Its intersting that they also sell used guns at about the same prices that this book states values at . 1- is the book inacurate....or 2- are people just old fashioned greedy and trying to hit a HOME RUN ? I realize these so called blue books are for reference to provide an average market value guide line . Your input/advice and comments are appreciated.

I use the Blue Book as reference only, as there are regional variations in price on a given firearm. For example, Blue Book values on certain A-5's are far below what they will bring in my area. 0 -
I have found the price pubs to be a good starting point showing relative prices. Blue Book's pre-eminence has somewhat been captured by the Standard Price Guide as their prices are more in line (although still a bit low) with real world military antique weapons. I wish I could find the gunshows that Blue Book prices come from! 0 -
Its My considered opinion that Balderson's Price Guide to Antique and Modern Firearms is about as close to Reality as You can get....

The best rule that any person can follow is to use the publications for a guide and to consider what an item sells for in Texas is more or less than what a weapon sells for in Oklahoma. Second: A weapon is worth what you are willing to pay and what the othe person is willing to sell a weapon for. Another factor to considern when you are looking for a Sako consider if it is pre-Garcia or Garcia era rifle. Than comes the condition of the weapon. Now that I have given you a reason to reach for the asprin, good luck. 0
