Import-marked M1 carbines are generally selling in the $300-400 range. Fed Ord was not exactly known for the quality of their products, but it may be OK. If the barrel is in good shape, then you did well; if it has excessive muzzle wear (MW>3.0), then you didn't do so well.

If you have a round of USGI .30-06 M2 ball ammo, you can use it as "poor man's" muzzle wear gauge. Stick it point first in the muzzle and measure how much copper jacket shows; 1/4" showing=new, 1/8" showing=some wear, none showing=shot out.

You did fine. Federal Ordance of South El Monte, California-was an importer and also a "put together" company-never manufactured anything like receivers. Long gone. If the barrel is not washed out, good deal. I use to sell a heck of a lot of carbines-DCM gun
    s. When selling carbines I sold them for $ 480.00/ ten years ago-non/import.
    With prices reaching $800.00 for non-import Inlands-Gun List-not the
paratrooper model-a bargain. Receivers going for $200.00 from Sarco.
The absolute worst import carbines were stamped "Blue Sky". The bullet test that Neal suggests is viable but definitely not a true indicator for the carbine. The questionable arms from Federal Ordance are the 03-A3's and others. They used a poor non-heat treated receiver
and installed GI parts. Case is the "National Ordance" marked 03-A3's.
Terribly dangerous. Further, they installed liners in 03& 03A3 barrels. Yes, I had one and blew the liner out. Your carbine should be just fine-but have it checked first for safety by a knowledgable
    smith. 101
