NEED INFO ON HOW FFL SYSTEM WORKS

I have a gun I want to sell and dont know anything about the ffl dealer I am aware I have to send it to one and it is a long gun.[8]

    If the people can just give me an adress of a FFL Dealer and send it and be done?

    Inter-state transaction you will need an FFL in buyers state. Even If you sell or give your firearm to a family member who happens to live in the next state it is required to go thru an FFL holder. Personally I do not think ATF is overly concerned with prosecuting in this scenario: for instance if a family member or friend who lives in Iowa and you are in Nebraska, is dying and during his last days gives you his Pheasant shotgun they probably don't even care.

    You can ship your long-gun to the FFL dealer: 1) ask for a copy of the dealers FFL. 2) Once you get the FFL, validate the FFL by going the ATF web site and check out the liscense #'s. 3) if the dealer will provide you with just the numbers and not send you a copy you can still verify those numbers via the web site and ship to the address on the FFL. There is a lot of concern about shipping to an FFL without having a copy of the receiving FFL. If I ship my rifle back to the factory I do not need their FFL! If you want to verify this call the toll free number of the ATF.

    In any case you must ship to the address on the FFL. You do not need a dealer to ship your firearm. You can ship it! USPS requires that only an FFL can ship a handgun via their system. No ammo in same box as firearm. Do not mark the outside of the box with any word or symbol which might clue an outsider that a firearm is inside the box. I even distort the name: John's Gun Shop become JGS, Metal Works. The actual name is not as important as the correct numbers in the address.

    If you want to sell your long-gun to a resident of your state and buyer lives in same city an FFL need not get involved...but if he is 200 miles away, unless he want to drive in and get it DO NOT SHIP DIRECTLY TO HIM BETTER USE AN FFL IN HIS AREA. If there are any doubts or questions contact the ATF office in your area. They do have a toll free number.

    Where did you find the 200 mile restriction for shipping a long gun to a buyer inside the same state????

    Hi Jim....there is no mile restriction in your own state or any state it is just easyer to ship it through an FFL dealer then to drive it there yourself or to have him/her come get it, I also recamend that you have him/her fill out a certificate of eligibility and yourself and then swap them so that your butt is coverd should any thing happen after the fact, you can get these forms from a local FFL or the ATF, they would be more than happy to send them to you....[8D]
