Bolt ,Semi , or Pump?

Which one is the better overall rifle as far as accuracy,reliability and what are some problems you might have with them? Thanks

  There is no question that for accuracy and reliability, you can't beat a good bolt action rifle.

  Bolt action hands down. It is the ony action you mentioned that can handel high end pressures.

  Nothing beats a good bolt action rifle, I have noted that there are some wise men giving you some good input. Now I bet that your next question is what caliber and after you take a pasting for not telling the people what you are going to use it for, not just hunting but what are you going to be hunting and what do you think your average distance will be, than your next question will be, what brand or make, after that will be what scope should I purchase, when you get the answer to all of these questions write the answer to each question on a sheet of paper with your name on it and give a sheet to each person in the family and tell them when your birthday is, christmas and fathers day, if your wife is still speaking to you remind her about your wedding anniversary. It works every time, just ask the others on this forum.Good hunting.[:)][:D][8D][:o)]

  the forum speaks....bolt action. however; i shot a bushmaster varminter last week and was extremely impressed!! i would love to have one except my wife would shoot me with it.

  Bolt for all the reasons you specified, but any of them (and also lever's) can be accurate and reliable.
  For short range (<50 yards), I like a semi-auto carbine. Above that I'll take the good ol' bolt (in a 700 Remington preferrably).

  If you want something different than a bolt that is very reliable, you may want to take a peek at a Ruger No 1. The Farquharson style falling block action must be almost as strong an action as a bolt action and the No 1 is made in a variety of chamberings from .218 Bee to .458 Lott. Of course you only have one shot at something. There are several models of falling block action rifles currently being produced in addition to the Ruger No 1.
