C&R Transaction

I have a High-Standard Model B pistol on GunBroker (8210180). The gun (Ser. No. 680xx) was mfg in 1934. A potential bidder told me that the gun falls under the purview of C&R. He has a C&R FFL. I have no FFL of any kind.

1. Is the gun a C&R?

2. Must he send me a copy of his C&R?

3. Can I ship the gun directly to him?

4. Can I ship it via USPS? If so, is any paperwork required on my part? What's a typical mailing cost?

Anything else I should know to stay out of jail? Thanks in advance for your help.

  The answer to questions one through three is yes. Any gun 50 years old or older is a C&R. As to shipping talk to your local company and see what they require.

  The answer to #4 is No you may not ship a hand gun USPS even if you had a C&R and are shipping to a C&R it's still no.

  However, even though it is legal, UPS generally doesn't accept firearms shipments from individuals. The only exception is "a firearm for repair"; so, you must ship it from a UPS company counter (not a mailbox store), and you must declare it as "firearm for repair". Due to their inability to eliminate employee theft, both UPS & FEDEX require that handguns be shipped by Next Day Air. The cheapest of these services is Next Day Air Saver, but you still need to figure that shipping will cost $40-50. Use the UPS online estimator to determine the exact cost, and, of course, insure for the full value.

  Thanks to all the responders. Please note that my question concerned shipping by U.S. Postal Service. Can't my local FFL ship any handgun via U.S. Postal Service for around $15?

  That would be the best way.
  
  However, none of the storefront dealers in my area will do that for me, for any price. And, the vest pocket dealers want $40-50. If you've got a relationship with a local FFL and can get done for a reasonable amount, go for it. After all, he must enter it in his bound book & follow all state & local laws.
