S&W 29-2 manufacture date and value
I have traded for a S&W Model 29-2 and am wondering when it was made and approximate value. The serial number is N752xxx. It is pinned and recessed. The grips are original but show some wear. No chips or cracks. The blue is at 95% or better. Thanks for any info.

Looks like 1980. Anywhere from $350 to $500 depending on how complete it is. People look for things like the box and the tools etc. to determine how much it is worth. The 6.5" is the most common and the 4" will usually bring a little more than the other two common barrel lengths.

Hi and welcome, I have a 29-2 in my shop and it also is in 95% condition, I have a 8 3/8" barrel on it an original wood grips, I paid $425.00 at a gun show for it and ran the ser# and found it to be late 70's early 80's the (-2) means second generation...[8D]

I have never heard the term generation used with S&W revolvers before. Technically I think the -2 would be 3rd generation (if you want to use that word) since the 1st generation was M29 and the 2nd was the M29-1. Maybe this is getting too confusing?
Did you pay $425 for a gun you are trying to resell? How much are you asking for it? That seems like a lot for a dealer to pay and make any profit. That price is just about right for retail.
One last note on values. Any gun is worth whatever someone is willing to pay and where you are can make a huge difference. In places like California and Massachusettes where handgun sales are difficult and many guns are banned a good used gun that can be transferrd will bring more than in another state where freedom still exists. I see lots of M29s being offered at $600 or more but I don't see too many selling at that price. About $450 or so is more typical.
