Tang Sight Aperature
Want to use an tang sight on a replica Sharps. What size aperature should I consider (I wear glasses)?

Thats going to be entirely up to your eyes...Its going to be whatever aperture that allows you to see the Target...Thats one of the reasons for different sizes...You might consider using an IRIS Aperture..It works on the principle of a Single Lens Reflex Camera...I used this type of Sight when I was shooting Muzzleloader Competition with My Big Bench Rifles...and shooting Cross Stick Buffalo Matches...Worked Good enough to take home a few 1st Place Trophies...and set a couple of State Records...

Hairy:
Check out "Buffalo Arms", They sell the "Hadley" style aperture that has several sizes of hole you can select.0 -
I forgot to mention the "Hadley" eye cup made by Montana Vintage Arms has a rubber ring in back to protect glasses and eyes. These are avaiable from MVA or Buffalo Arms. 0 -
Thanks, Guys.

THEORETICALLY, the smaller the aperture, the more accurate, however a small aperture will cut light (make the target dim) and will be slower and harder to get lined up. Also the factor of your specs would demand a reasonable sized hole to look through!
I would recommend trying a few samples and go a little larger than you think is optimum.

Also depends a lot on the amount of light....bright, hazy, overcast. I have read that the size is not all that important and that you should use as large an aperature as you can see well with; the eye automatically centers the front sight in the rear opening. Emery
