I bought the Savage for a friend of mine in NE a year ago and she loves it. She is rather small. That's the reason for the small stock for her. I think it's only 1 1/2" difference though.

Both are good rifles but there is quite a difference between the two. The Remington is lighter and shorter which makes it easier to carry and handle but also causes it to recoil more than the Savage. If possible, let the shooter handle both and decide which feel best.

My pick would be the 700 youth model in 260 or 7mm-08. Light recoil, fits small frames and delivers downrange. Also the resale when ever you decide to move up to full size. I have shot the model 7's in 7mm-08 and the difference in felt recoil was noticable to me over the 700's!! Stick with the 700's with the synthetic stocks. GHD 0 -
NEF makes a youth model handi-rifle in 308. For your budget of $300-350 you could buy the rifle and a nice scope and be in business. Good little shooters.
Taxation WITH representation isn't so hot either!0
