Smith & Wesson 22A

I just bought a S&W 22A. Put 200 rds through it.
100rds CCI: good accuracy, 1 misfire, 1 misfeed.
50rds rem: very good accuracy 2 misfires.
50rds win: no accuracy 2 misfires.
All standard vel. or target ammo. I haven't shot 22s in thirty years. Whats with the misfires? Is it the ammo or the pistol? Will try federal ammo next.

Any help appreciated

  I Have had a 22S for about six years and initially I had misfires where the shell doesn't fully seat in the chamber and I have had some fails to feed. Both I finally attributed to shooting lower velocity cartidges that didn't fully rack the slide. The solution I found was shooting CCI Mini Mags which are high velocity. Other HV would probably work also but they were also the most accurate load I tried and I tested about ten brands including target loads using a redot sight and sandbag rest.
  
  Any more, I use CCI's Mini Mags in all of my 22's and have had great luck. My Walther P22 is a bit finicky with others but I haven't had a misfire/misfeed in over 1000 rounds using the CCI's.

  2xbyu; It's the gun, I had the exact same gun and it did the exact same thing. It has to be really clean and only then it just cuts down on miss fires. doesn't stop them all together. Traded mine about three weeks ago and bought a browning Buck Mark.

  I had good luck with my old one just shooting wax-coated ammo like the Remington Thunderbolts or Cyclones. That said, I've had much better luck with the models: 41/422/622/2206

  I HAD THE MODEL 22A-1 MODEL WHICH HAD 2 BARRELS,(TARGET & SPORTER).
  I WAS VERY DISSAPOINTED OVERALL. I SOLD THE GUN AND BOUGHT A RUGER MARK 2 TARGET.

  Traded mine in on a P22 after 6 months and 2 trips back to S&W for "repairs".

  The only S&Ws I'd recommend in 22LR are the 41 and their wheelguns. If you can find an ammo that works for you great. Usually the high velocity ammo seems to cause less mischief and is often cheaper. Trading guns is a pain worth avoiding. Ruger Mark II is reallly the gun of choice for most folks if you do decide to trade.

  I purchased one and tho haven't shot it a lot, it has been both reliable and quite accurate. I also own a a browning buckmark that developed the same problem. I seem to have cured it by cleaning and oiling, especially the bolt slide. Also, cleaning and lite lubing of the magazine.
  
  I could be very wrong but it seems to me that I read that the S&W 22a
  was manufactured by browning for S&W to their spec. The magazines are nearly identical but will not interchange.

  I bought one from Bass Pro shops,it had a 6 inch bull barrel and is ported.I have never seen another 22a like this one,it will shoot any kind of ammo and i have never had a hicup of any kind.But the gun is built cheap and i dont like the plastic grips.Accuracy wasnt up to my expectations,due to the sights that came with the gun.You could not compare it to a model 41,the 41 is excellent and in a class all by its self.I traded mine for a Colt Trooper 22 and it will shoot rings around the 22a.If you have one of the ported 22a save it they tell me they will have a collecters value.   Thank you All for all the input. I'll give it a little time and try some high velocity stuff. If it dosn't work out it will have to go.

  I have had a S&W 422 for years and have never had a problem with it. It's a fun plinker.
