Handgun Finishes

Any advantage in different handgun finishes? Nickel, Stainless, K-kote, Blue, Nitron finished? ANy suggestions Thanks, Ken

  Hi selzy and welcome,
  The advantages I have found with SS and nickel plate are corrosion resistance, especially when you carry a piece inside the wasteband.
  SS and black powder is nice because you just scrub with soap and water.
  Some of the "fancy" finishes offer the same advantages. My carry 1911 has a satin blue slide (better site vis)and a satin nickel frame. Go figure. It looks good.

  A lot of the finishes are availiable simply for the preference of the customer. Some people like blue over stainless or stainless over blue ect. I think the polished stainless are easier to clean and are less likely to rust, but I love the classic look of Blue. Your choice of finish also depends on what you plan to use the pistol for. For LEO work, I prefer the blue or matte finishes that do not reflect too much light. For plinking and paper punching, stainless is great because it is easier to clean.
