I have a S&W model 36 that I've had for about 20 years. How do I tell when it was manufactured? Mine has the flat cylinder latch and I was wondering when they changed and if this was any indication of the age. Thanks

  Taloka,, The flat latch ,I believe, was discontinued in 1966. If you give the serial #, I may be able to give you yr of manufacture. You can leave off the last 2 digits of the number.

  Taloka.... My ref material does not give an exact date for your gun, but, based on the number you provided, it appears your gun was built in 1963 or 64.

  Thank you Lefty that's probably right, the guy I got it from thought it was about 20 years old and that was 20 years ago when I got it.
