I have a old over-under gun, shot gun/rifle that is stamped Bohler Stahl Special.
It is beautifully engraved. It has 2 hammers and there was still a old shell in the butt plate. The shell is labeled RWS 5.5x58R it appears the shot gun barrel may resemble a 28 or 20g. I need any info please....Petes0 -
Something isn't right here! The RWS 5.6 X 57R is a modern metric hunting cartridge, that dates from the 1960's. Supposedly it's in the same class as the 220 Swift.
Unless they made a earlier lower powered version, I don't see it being used in old, over and under gun with outside hammers.
I believe the correct cartridge for your rifle barrel is the 22 Savage "High Power" or as it's known in Europe ( 5.6 X 52mmR)
The best thing for you to do is take your combo gun to a "COMPETENT" Gunsmith and have him make chamber casts of your barrels to determine the correct rifle and shotgun cartridges.
If you give us all the proof marks and any other markings on the gun we might help you determine it's approximate age and maker.
From your description it seems to be a high class gun and therefore might have some value.0 -
Look at where the barrels are joined at the barrel block. You'll have to remove the forearm.
On the barrel sides you'll find #'s and symbols.
They are the cartridge/caliber/guage/sizes, and the Proof Marks, which can help determine country of proof, and manufacturer.
Post them and you'll get more help & info.
