    Yes, they did. Here's a picture of one. http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/s204.htm $1750 USD. There are others at a whole lot less money. Not as pretty as this one though.
    Mind you, the guy could still be wrong. Thinking the Birmingham proof marks means it was made by BSA, like you say.
