Unertl scope information

I have an 8x Unertl target scope with the serial # 1851. It has black mounts and "J. Unertl" is stamped above the serial #. It has the 3/4" diameter tube with a 1" (approx.) obj. lens. The AO obj. is numbered from 1 thru 6 rather than yardage numbers like more modern scopes. It is aprox. 21 1/2" long, with lens caps, good optics, recoil spring, and little wear on the body. The above listed serial # is correct. I'm not interested in selling this scope but would like to know some history on this low numbered model and it's range in value. It's currently mounted on a Ruger #1 22/250 Varmint. Thanks to all who respond.[:D]

  Since you said the objective bell is 1" or so, I'm going to guess it is a 1" Target. Go to unertloptics.com, click on products, click on full range and scroll down to 1 1/4" Target. Click on more information and it will give you pretty much all there is to know about the 1" and 1 1/4" Target scopes.

  According to Nick Stroebel's book "Old Rifle Scopes", the only 21-1/2" scope he lists is a 1" Clear Aperture Objective Target scope. Made 1937-1985+. Value....$200.00-$300.00, add $50.00 for wood case. "The first scopes manufactured prior to WWII were a 1"- objective Target scope...." Hope this helps a bit. Emery
