What does my friend have?
He aquired a bolt action rifle from his grandfather. It's a Mauser action with a dark colored stock that runs the full length of the barrel. You can't really feel the grain of the wood, almost as if the stock has been coated with quite a few coats of varnish type stuff. Nicely done of course. The grip area sort of projects down into a pistol grip before the shoulder stock starts.
All the lettering seems to be gold stencil, not actually etched into the metal of the rifle. On the barrel is:
FR. FRAUFNSTORFER BUCHSEN MACHERMEISTER
MANNHEIM O 6,5
It has an interesting scope that has a smaller lens that is near the eye, and the far lens is quite big. Maybe 50mm +. On the scope is
Made in Germany
HENSOLDT-WETZLAR
ZIEL-DIALYT 8 X 13683
There is additional gold leafs on the rifle and the vanes of the leafs are about the only thing that is actually cut into the metal.
On the floor plate is a large H over-imposed by a M.
It's also got a set trigger (I think that's what you call it).
Any idea what this rifle is and it's value?

The weapon that have dscibed appears to be a 6.5mm full stocked Mannlicker style , it was made by the company "Faufnstorfer" and they were listed by the Guild as Master Rifle Makers, the firm was located in Mannheim, both the rifle and scope are pre WWII, if you e-mail me a picture of the weapon I will try to give you more information. 0 -
