t/c encore accuracy problems

is anyone else having accuracy problems with their encore rifle barrels. my 22 hornet barrel is shooting nearly two inch groups at 25 yards. can't figure out the problem. i have tried new bases, rings, and three different leupold scopes. any suggestions? besides wrapping it around a tree.

  Do you have other bbls that shoot tight groups or is the hornet bbl the only one you have? Sometimes with break open single shots you have to try different bench rest setups until you find something that does not affect the grouping. Take a look at the muzzle to make sure the crown has not been damaged.

  I have the encore in a 22-250 and it shoots great. you might want to check your crown.

  If you can locate a machinist (Plasta Gauge). Check how square the barrel face is. The hinge pin slot could be out of alignment.
  
  If you can't find one. I can send you one. You will need a set of mikes to get a good reading.

  The major problem with an encore is the pin in the reciever which holds the barrel. Look at some aftermarket sights for them, and you will see oversized pins listed. Buy an oversized pin, and go from there. The only other thing to do is to mate the conecting surfaces of the reciever and barrel. The sections that meet each other can be machined down to match perfectlt,...and that will make her shoot as best she can.
  
  Just because you can't wiggle that pin, means nothing. A few thousandths will pull the groups together.

  Pressure on the barrel from the forend can be another problem. Several shooters I know have had this problem with the small calibers in the contenders. It is possible the encore may be just as finicke. My 308 exhibits some symptoms of this.

  thanks for the tips everyone. i'm leaning towards a crown problem. i will try the oversize pin and floating the forearm. thanks again

  There is no way to float the forearm of an encore. The two bolts that hold it on, are threaded into the barrel itself, therefore, you can't "float" the barrel. You may be able to relieve some of the contact points, and leave only the contact at the 2 screws however. Unless your crown is not square to the bore, or has a noticeable "nick" in it, that probably isn't your problem either.
  
  Try the pin before spending any other money, and see if that fixes it. My gunsmith was the person who gave me the skinny on them, after I inquired as to why a friends 22-250 barrel went from shooting ragged holes, to shooting 1moa. Every time that factory pin goes in/out, it wears, as it is softer than many of the replacements. The gunsmith told me the way he fixes them is to actually make a new pin out of better steel in the shop. HTH

  Hello buckdeer,just sell it to me,lol,email is rrobert_l_@hotmail.com not to long ago I had a Contender barrel and I found a load that worked excellent in it.Maybe it would would work in the Encore,Bob.
