why the rib on the bushnell elite. I've heard good things about them.
Please elaborate. I'd hate to buy a scope and be dissatisfied with it.

Don't sweat everyone's comments. Scope preferences are like Chevy, Ford & Dodge preferences. Every body swears theirs is the best and the other is junk and everyone has a magazine calling it the truck of the year. The guy I bought my Schmidt & Benders from says Swarovskis are not that good (that is picky). What matters is that you like it after you have looked through it. That way you will be happy.

Of the 4 'shnells I have owned; NOT ONE has lasted over 6 months.
I've put 'em on a 10-22 only to have the reticle come unscrewed after 8 shots; put 1 on a Guide Gun-lasted exactly 2 shots before the objective lens dropped out the front; put one on a 10-22Magnum-wouldn't hold a zero for more than a mag change; bought the top-of-the-line thinking maybe the others were junk drawer bargains, put it on a Savage muzzle loader and couldn't for the life of me get it to zero at 200yds.(yes, I used sandbags, a recoil pad, gun vise, different powders/projectiles, tapped lightly on the turrets between shots, etc. & still couldn't make any adjustments that meant something on paper), yanked it off, handed it to a guy sitting next to me, replaced it with a tasco 4 power, and proceeded to blow hell out of the middle of the target.
Trashnell couldn't GIVE me a scope.
Besides; their warranty covers everything except USE of the product.
Contacted them about the scopes enumerated here; a new reticle is only $45 + shipping for a $35 scope! A new objective can be installed if I only ship it to them with a check for $70 (scope cost less than $60)The Elite 4200 36x40 cost over $200 new; but when I gave it away, it felt better than buying a new Unimog!

i have a few bushnell's and have had no problems what so ever..have one on my 22-250 browning and does the job perfectly...have a leupold that needs to be fixed after i used it four times on a 308..when i get time i'll send it in..just my two cents.... 0 -
It seems that the older Bushnell pre 1980 had much better quality.My father has used Bushnell for many years and NEVER had a problem.I purchased a Bushnell Elite 3200 about 2 years ago and the objective lens came loose twice,sent it back both times no questions asked just had to pay for shipping.I thought maybe I just got a bad one out of the lot but I have talked to several other guys that said the same as gunnut505.It is sitting on the shelf while a Burris replaced with no problems.[:D] 0 -
I AM A FIRM BELIEVER THAT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. YOU CAN USUALLY GET AWAY WITH A CHEAPER SCOPE USING A 22. IF YOUR SHOOTING HIGH POWER, GO TO HIGH DOLLAR SCOPES. ITS WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN. 0 -
I have owned, and still own several bushnells, and on a great variety of cals. over the last twentyfive years I have had one go bad and thats because it hit the ground from about 18 ft. you can pay all the money youve got on a single scope or you can be a bit conservative and buy 2 or 3 very nice scopes. as in everything in our lives more is not always better. ITS JUST MORE! [8D]

Forgot to mention that Bushnell fixed a 6 year old scope for nothing even though I had no reciepts. just paid postage there and back [8D]
