Are the Colts a good quality gun out of the box?
    Do they have any problems?

A lot of 'em have plastic triggers and require a couple parts to be a good carry gun, I'd look at the Kimber myself, not much more expensive and the necessary changes have already been made. You might also look at the Glock 21, that been my carry choice for years, similar size, super-reliable and 14 round capacity too[:D]

The new Colts are better than they have been for several years. I think their cost is a little high for what you get. The only problem I have generally had with 45 acp Colts is they will not feed swc lead rounds reliably. They are made to shoot round nose fmj ammo. The barrels can be modified to work with just about anything.

Like the others said, Kimber is the best bang for the buck.

the most reliable pistol i own is a model 92 berretta however: you cant hit the broad side of a barn with it. upper grade guns as stated above, you cant go wrong with kimber. one of my favorite pistols is a SIG.239, RELIABLE AND COMPACT.

Never had a misfire or problem with either.
    Many good opinions here.

Have not had the pleasure of shooting a Kimber, but you can't go wrong with the Colt.

Is high capacity is an issue? If it is then the Glock and Para Ord have to be high on the list.

Capacity is not much of a issue I would just like a reliable 1911 model that will give me years of use.
Also what about customizing do all the 1911 models have a lot of aftermarket parts? Do all the big names like Colt,Para-Ord and Kimber all have diffrent accerries and are a lot of the accerries interchangle between brands?
    Thanks
