Unertl spoting scope?

I have a Unertl 20x54 no. T-312 and the eye pice says 20x on it, can I buy a 40x and just screw it on? At 66 years old I need more power, can't see 22 holes at 100 yards. I bought it used so I do not have any info on it. Sure could use some help here and thanks in advance.

    I may be mistaken, but I believe Unertl is no longer in business. The wife and son of the original Unertl ran the business for a while and continued making scopes, but have I believe closed. If you go to one of the search engines like google and do a search for Unertl, there is at least one guy who is a collector/dealer who could likely answer your question and maybe has the parts you need.

    ps-That scope has considerable collector value, depending upon its condition, how complete it is, if it still has its case. Don't dump it at a flea market!

    Thanks He dog, I have all ready checked and they are still in business. but did not see the collector guy, so will look again, It is in very good shape but the case is a leather case, I don't know if it is original or after market, it's a very heavy leather with a strap on it, all so I did not buy it new.(Im to old and cheap for that) And thanks again Guy's

    He Dog, Unertl is still making scopes for the military. They do offer one for sale to the public, but I beleive it goes for around $2500[V]

    I beleive that it is the issue glass for the M40A1 sniper rifle. The M24 SWS rifle is issued with the Leupold MK IV M3 BDC for the 7.62 nato round. One full revolution takes it from 100-1000yds[8D]

    I beleive they are probably still one of the best, but for $2500, I want more than 10x!!!!

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    Unertl also made a 24X63 scope. That would be much better for your needs but would be hard to find. I don't think a 40X ocular lens, if such a thing was made, would be a solution. The image would not be very bright with that much magnification and only 54mm of objective lens.
    I think the 20X54 Unertl was designed for pistol shooters and was perfectly adequate for the 25 and 50 yd ranges the pistol shooters fired.
