just bought a tikka, what kind of rings and bases?
Having just purchased a tikka rifle, I now have to decide on the rings and bases. I am putting either a leupold or bushnell elite scope on it, but there are so many choices for mounting systems. Warne, leupold, weaver, etc etc. Any opinions?

I use Dave Talley's rings and bases. They will set you back about $100 for rings and bases, but are the most bullet proof rings anywhere. The Burris rings with the inserts are also decent. 0 -
Leupold bases with the leupold scope; duct tape for the Trashnell.
Your Tikka has a dovetail just like the Sako, right? Why not use those steel Millett rings-sturdy as a gyrene after church!

burris rings will only set you back about 30 bucks (if you have integral mounts.) make sure you dont buy aluminum rings. they are garbage. 0 -
He Dog has a good suggestion. Talley rings are actually "line bored". They are one of the truest set of rings that there are, no need to lapp them. The warne rings I have recently placed on a rifle are heavy, but very well built as well. Either of those would yield great performance, especially on larger recoiling rifles.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

If you are wanting to save money (which your earlier post implied) I would go with the leupold rings and bases (dual dovetail perhaps). If you want the best regardless of price then try David Gentry bases and rings or Dave Talley rings. Your 7mm.08 should not be bad for recoil so you should not need the expensive rings but they are still nice to have. The David Gentry rings are hand made in Montana and I am a firm believer that good quality custom work beats good quality manufactured work.

Tikka has they're own great integeral base design, a close copy of Sako's great system.
They also have their own rings, "Opti Lock" which is the same as Sako's, both are copies without violating the great Patented Burris Signature ring.
NO other base/ring style will work,...unless drilled & tapped for different bases. Self defeating, and waste of money.
Warne (one of my most favorite) has two styles: Maxima, and the Premier (steel machined)which is more stylish, and lighter than the Maxima.
Burris, can't go wrong with the Signature and somewhat lower priced that the Warne.
Millet, I don't really care for, due to the extra side joints, possibility of movement, and the jaws don't fit so well in the receiver groove.
Gentry/Talley & Warne Premier all in the upper class of quality.
