First autoloader
We all know John Browning's 1911 is considered the grandfather of all modern autoloading pistols. But the Luger pre-dated that as did Browning's own 1903. So my question is what was the FIRST autoloading/semi-automatic pistol? What year was it introduced and what was the caliber?

Borchardt, patented by Hugo Borchardt in 1893. 7.65 Borchardt Caliber. Made between 1894 & 1899. Forerunner of the Luger. 0 -
First really successful and produced in quantity was the C-96 Mauser pistol, 1896. Made for many years with a variety of detail configuration changes, some could select full auto or semi auto fire. Often seen with a wooden holster that could attach the the butt of the pistol as a shoulder stock to make it into a sort of carbine. Usually found in 7.63 and 9mm calibers, a few made also in .45ACP and maybe other calibers. 0 -

I don't have any financial stake in this auction, but my transfer dealer has this broomhandle for sale. NICE piece. Only posting for the pics. If only I could afford the price tag!!

What about the old Webley Fosbury automatic revolver? Wasn't that the gun from the Maltese Falcon? Didn't the Brits use it during the Boer War or earlier?
