Old geezers sight picture
Okay I am getting old. I now need to wear bifocals. When I have on my glasses on the blade and notch are okay and the target is fuzzy. No matter where I try on the bifocal glasses the sight pictures is lousy. I have a pair of prescrip sunglasses that is for long distance vision , but then the target looks great and the notch and blade become fuzzy. Any suggestions short of selling my guns for half price and going to the old folks home.

I have the same problem and posted it on here quite some time ago. Some people have had good luck with the Merit Optical Attachment which attaches to your glasses and has a very small hole which you look thru at your sights. It forces your eye to focus better. I have tried it and have seen an improvement in my sight picture but the sights are still not as sharp and clear as I would like. I have resigned myself to the fact that I am getting old and the lamps are failing! I have mounted a red dot sight on a few of my handguns and it works very well, but I never really liked optics on a handgun. Good luck and don't give up yet!

I am lucky not to have the problem with handguns yet, but rifles are tougher. Mounting scopes solves the problem for rifles, even if you just mount a 2x. 0 -
holosights are recommended by a few members of this board. Never tried one out myself but they look like they'd do the trick. 0 -
Try peep sights. One good trick is, get a set of peep sights, and a set of fiber optic sights. Use the peep on the rear and the fiber optic front sight for the front.
mojosight.com sells a rig that is supposed to be pretty good. It is a set of rear peep sights, with a front peep sight. You center the front peep in the rear peep. They are designed for military surplus rifles but I bet you could modify them to fit other rifles.0 -

Amberjack Fuzzy is good. as long as you can distinguish the target and focuse on the frount sight you good you will get the most out of your rifle accuracy wise. I shot some of my best long range scores in high power comp. when I shot the "fuzz-ball at 600 yds. Try adjusting you sight's so the target sits on your frount sight with the bullet strikeing the desired point that way you can see the whole fuzzy target. You just have to commit that sight picture memory and shoot it the same every time. The other option is to get a good scope. It's not time for Depends yet. ha ha 0 -
I agree with Allen Griggs.I have the same problem(old age)and have found that mounting peep sights on my non scoped rifles makes a big difference.Either that or--Give up shooting and send all your guns to ME. 0 -
Frankly, I think you are expecting something that wouldn't be true of someone younger. There's no way front/rear sights and target are going to be crisp and sharp to one's eyes at the same time. I'd discuss the issue with your doctor; they might be able to make up something that help your shooting. The other thing is to use either a scope or holo/red dot sight system.
This worked for me with a handgun: a drop of bright orange red paint on the front sight. The difference was like night and day. I suspect it would help on a rifle, but I haven't any expereience with it.

This problem isn't restricted to older people. I started to have a problem in my earlry thirties. Went to red dot scopes at first like Tasco Pro Point which weigh about 6 oz. but have since gone to the "0PTIMA" which weighs about 1 oz. The 0ptima is no longer available under that name but Midway has the same product under the JP ENTERPRISES name. A similar product, but of more robust design called the "Doctor" is avaiable from Nygord Precision Products. For rifles I like the "HOLOSIGHT". Anyway good luck.
