dannej it sounds like someone filed the frount sight to maintain a certain sight picture for iron sight competion, like a six o'clock hold that's when the black dot sits on top of your sight blade. the height of an unfiled sight blade is about 1/8 of an inch. the windage adj. should work if you bring the screw to snug if it still loosens you could try a drop of locktight at the correct adjustment.

Thanks for the reply....I got a response from Springfield asking me to send the rifle in. I am debating on whether to do this as I would think the simplicity of the rear site assembly would make it easy to replace parts as needed. I'm just not sure what is needed.

I don't know which receiver or if the sights are GI. The front sight is a NM sight. I called Springfield and they told me I needed a new windage and elevation knob and a different (taller) front sight which I ordered. They were very helpful and courteous. I worked on the rear sight as I spoke with a rifle tech.....

This is a very interesting thread dannej, as a good friend just bought a Super Match SA M1a with a Krieger SS barrel and his shoots about 4 inches high with the rear sight cranked all the way down. The first thought was that someone had "adjusted" the front sight. He is contacting SA Monday morning.
Please let us know how it turns out for you and we will do the same.
Sheeesh, $2700 for a rifle with a bad $10 sight.

I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6!

Sorry for delay, rchawk. I called the factory and they said I need new parts for the rear sight and a new front sight as mine has the national match sight. The replacement sight is taller and should take care of this. I haven't received the parts yet, but I'll let you know when they come in and I try it out....

    No sweat dannej,
My buddy already received his "new" front sight from SA. It is about 1/16 taller than the original. We will be attempting to re-zero soon.
    Good luck with your replacements.
