Just bought a used marlin 336 30/30 at a local gun show, What is the white and black insert on the bottom of the butt stock?

  there to make it look pretty... I think it helps give contrast in the figuring in the walnut stock.

  The little black and white insert is Marlin's tademark and not a swivel mount like I was so foolish as to assume at one time. I need to order a new one from Marlin.

  Direct from the Marlin web site:
  
  What is the small round black and white dot on the bottom of my Marlin stock?
  
  A) This is the Marlin "Bullseye". This trademark has been used since 1922 on all Marlin walnut buttstocks.
