How do you tell a transition win. 88

Can anyone explain to me, how to tell if a winchester model 88
is a transition model. (ie... niether pre or post 64 ) Any pics or books that explain this would be
greatly appreciated....thanks in advance...jim

  not real sure I understand the question
  Model 88 pre '64 Diamond checkering, no barrel band, 22in. barrel
  
  model 88 post '64 impressed basket weave checkering, no barrel band, 22in. barrel
  
  model 88 carbine no checkering, one-piece stock, has the barrel band, 19 in. barrel

  By transition I mean the rifle that was produced in the interum
  between the rifle we know as the pre 64 ( cut checkered ) and the
  post 64 ( pressed checkered ) model 88....jim

  There was Pre-64 and then there was Post-64.

  Jim, In 1964 winchester introduced the impressed checkered stocks to "ALL" the model 88 line, starting at serial #151,693 until the end of rifle production. However, "SOME" rifles seen about serial #151,300 to #151,692 during the transition had the impressed checkered stock.
