Should I Sell Mini 14 and buy an AR?

Mini 14s are a quandry to me. It seems like when I don't have one, I want one, but when I have it I wonder why, 'cause I already have an AR.

I guess they are just so cute with the Butler Creek folding stocks, the one I have now has "preban" numbers, with Butler Creek folder (that's how I bought it) and I got the MWG drum and 8 PMI 40 round mags, new in bags.

But I look at what the PMI mags are worth, and the drum, and the gun and wonder why I don't sell it all and buy another AR? It's looking like I could come close to buying another pre-ban AR with what I have in Mini14 stuff.

Or will I crave another Mini if I sell the one I have?

    All depends on what you're doing, are you acollector? And if you are why have two of the same. And if you're not collecting, then again why have two of the same?

    Personally, I am not fond of Ruger Mini-14's, nor am I fond of AR-15's. Perhaps *I* am a "quandry"? [:D] But, personally, I'd sell the Mini-14 and stuff you got for it and pick up a FAL or one of it's clones. But, I'd consider my opinion biased.

    If you already have an AR why not sell the Mini 14 & get a DSA FNFAL like Rldowns recommends? I like my AR and all but I really want a DSA. [:p]

    I have two BM59s, a folder and a Nigerian. I have considerable respect for the FAL, but as far as .308 goes, I consider the BM59 the superior weapon.

    In that case sell it and buy 4 AK's.
    Or here's a good idea, buy both that new Keltec Rifle that takes AR mags & and an AR180. Then you could tell us how they work.[:D]

    The Mini 14 is a fine american made rifle. With that said it is not as accurate as the AR type rifles. For anything under 150 yards the mini works very well. If you have some tuning done to the Mini it will do well out to 300 yards. As for the MBR chambered in 7.62 that is an apple to orange comparison. The AR types have more accessories you can add at a very inexspensive price. The SAR 3 has the same accuracy as the mini 14. Fires the same round. Is much less exspensive to maintain and own. My 2 cents [8D]

    Keep the Ruger and buy the AR. Then you won't be in a quandry about not having the other.. No reason not having both if you like both.

    Been there and have a "solution." Had a Mini 14, sold it and got an AR. Kept missing the Mini but couldn't justify having two 223's. Bought a Mini 30. Very happy with both. Problem solved

    Too Easy! My criteria is ease of maintenance, disassembly without tools, number of small; expensive, easily lost or propelled parts.
    ANSWER: Keep the Mini, Sell that AR, Buy an M1A1 Nat'l Match in .243!
    Now you have an excuse for another set of dies, different powders, myriad bullet choices, and working up some new loads!!!

    I was faced with a not exactly similar dilemma. I wanted a .223 and the two in question are the only choices per se. Ended up with an AR but would still buy a Mini if the price was right especially with a folder. In a nutshell, keep 'em both and sell some mags and the drum if you want some quick cash. Still kicking myself for passing on a Mini w/aftermarket folder (assuming it was pre-ban) for $350.
