WIN 54 WITH MODEL 70 BOLT??

At the local gun show saturday, I spied a nice looking Mdl 54 on the table. Its stock and blueing looked too good to be true, the stock had been cut out for a lyman receiver sight, but no marks on the action where the sight would of been. The bolt didn't look quite right, nor the safety. I asked the seller, he said the finish was original, but the bolt had been replaced at WINCHESTER with a model 70 bolt.No, I didn't buy it, even at $450, just too much not jiving on this rifle. My question is, why would WINCHESTER replace the bolt of a Model 54 with a Modle 70 bolt? Is it even possible?

  the m-70 is just an updated m-54, some former owner probaly wanted to get the newer m-70 type safty. i never did understand why win. made the m-54 safty opperate opposite the mauser type safties.
