mcbab-WASR-10 Question
I am told that there are a limited number of WASR-10 AK47 style rifles that the ATF gave the importer permission to modify as long as a certian number of US parts were installed.
I've also heard quite a bit about guys buying WASR10's for under $200 each, ilegally "modifying" them with a Dremel tool, and selling them as SAR-1's. On some of these the fit and finish of the mag well is shoddy, and function of the mags is questionable.

I'm not Mcbab, but maybe I can partially answer (1) of your questions. Was going through some back issues of Shotgun News (6/10/02), doing some research on another question.
"Century International Arms" from Boca Raton Florida was advertising "WASR-10 HI-CAP's that will accept all standard AK type magazines" "it comes with a 30 & 40 round AK double stack magazine"
It doesn't say anything in the add, about it being modified or mention U. S. parts, A.T.F. etc.0 -
This is sort of an answer to a statement mcbab made on another AK47 thread....but, yes, I've seen the same advertisment.

Century themselves did do a lot of the conversions themselves, and yes unfortunately they didn't usually work as well as the actual SAR-1's. The mag fit and release was a bit problematic. For a while they couldn't get enough of the wide body models so they began this process. They ended up charging about $80-90 more if the receiver was opened-up to take the hi-cap mags, instead of just being the single stack mag set-up. I've seen some that were nearly impossible to get the mag back out once you got it in. 0 -
This will get this topic locked, but why do you want a Wasr ak? Is it the cheaper price?
