Moly coated lead bullets
Has anyone had any experience with the Bear Creek Supply brand Moly Coated lead bullets. They are offering a 255 gr. for a .38-55 that I would like to load. They say that with the moly there is no need for any other lube.
Any comments.

No experience with that specific bullet I am afraid. People are all over the map with opinions on Moly coated bullets, some passionate fans and some of other opinions. for my money, it is another gimmick not worth the effort. 0 -
A good friend and Hi-Power competition shooter has done some barrel temp testing with moly bullets fired in his M1A. He claims that the barrel temp is much lower after shooting a 5 round string with the moly bullets. On the order of can't touch the barrel after 5 FMJ bullets to hold the rifle by the barrel after 5 moly bullets. He feels the wear factor due to reduced friction is so much lower that it is worth the extra cost.
There is, however, the added cleaning problems with baked on moly.
Soooooo......?

I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6!0 -
I don't know what the molycoat does for lead bullets but in jacketed bullets through a chrony the fps is somewhat faster with the same load,Bob. 0
