ready to purchase new scope/ advice??
I CURRENTLY HAVE A TASCO WORLD CLASS 4X16 WHICH IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD.
I USE IT ON MY 6MM BENCHREST RIFLE. I WANT TO UPGRADE TO A BETTER SCOPE. MY BUDGET IS ABOUT 450.00, GIVE OR TAKE. I LOOKED INTO THE RANGEFINDING SCOPES AND I DO NOT LIKE THE GLASS CLUTTER (CIRCLES, LINES, ETC..). IM OLD SCHOOL AND I LIKE IT SIMPLE.
CAN ANYONE SUGGEST BASED ON EXPERIENCE, A GOOD QUALITY SCOPE WITHIN MY BUDGET?
WITHIN THESE GUIDELINES:
*I WOULD LIKE TO TRY A DIFFERENT BRAND OTHER THAN TASCO.
* NO BUSHNELL, SIMMONS, BSA OR OVERSEAS LOW END SCOPES PLEASE.
* I PREFER A SCOPE WITH A LENSE SHADE, OR COMPATABLE.
I DO SOME BENCHREST SHOOTING HOWEVER MY PRIMARY USE WILL BE FOR
GROUNDHOG HUNTING.

No Bushnell? I got a 10x Banner on my 6mm and a 6-18x50 on my 30.06 target rifle. Some of the best scopes I've run. Leupold's are even better. Get something with at least 9x or you won't maximize the benefits of the 6mm.

I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SAYING HOWEVER I HAVE HAD THIS GUN BUILT AND THE LAST THING IM DOING WITH IT IS TOPPING IT OFF WITH A BETTER SCOPE. I HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH MY TASCO, ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE.
I HAVE USED BUSHNELL B4 AND ON THE SCOPE I HAD, NOT ENOUGH LIGHT TRANSMISSION TOWARD DUSK, WHICH IS WHEN I USUALLY GET SOME GROUNDHOG ACTION.0 -
You might take a look at the 6-18x50 pictured on the lower rifle. They are available for around 150-200 bucks and I've used mine in very low light conditions (ie: after sunset) The front objective lens size will have the biggest effect on your low light abilities. Get a scope with a 44-50mm objective. Higher magnification also reduces the brightness of the image. If an image is hard to see in the scope, reduce your magnification, you'll lose a little precision, but it'll be one more whistlepig that doesn't get away[;)] I got some higher dollar scopes, but I usually opt for the Bushnells when building new toys, good quality/good price

That price brings to mind a Burris Signature with target knobs and probably a balistic mil-dot reticle. Great scopes, great glass. They are little heavier, but hold zero well on my 7mm mag.
If you don't have to have a variable,....check out the weaver T36. Now that will get the groups you want and any hog you can find[8D]
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

In your price range, it's a no brainer..........LEUPOLD.......
Awesome optics (for the money), awesome guarantee (lifetime, no questions asked)...........I would suggest the 6.5x20x40 or the 6.5x20x50, lens shades are easily found for these. Also, both of these scopes can be had with either a dot reticle, regular duplex, or even better for your described purpose would be the fine duplex reticle.........just good ol' traditional fine crosshairs that cross in the middle........You can pick up the target model 6.5x20x40 with target turrets and fine duplex from www.dnrsports.com for $503.84, that's a great buy on this scope....... I can't remember if mine came with the lens shade or if I ordered it after the fact, but I'm pretty sure it came with a 2.5" sunshade from the factory.......you can shop around at some of the other internet stores such as bearbasin.com and holewall.com to see, but I doubt if you'll beat dnrsports.com on this scope unless you happen to find one on fleabay, which can be a great option also.

ohiohog, I looked into a couple other options for you in the 6.5x20x40 fine duplex, at www.dnrsports.com, you can get the same scope I mentioned before in the Leupold 6.5x20x40 (without the target turrets) in gloss for $453.08, and if you want matte it's $466.24................If you go with the gloss w/o turrets, you'll be right on your number of $450 to spend..........You cannot go wrong with a leupold for what you're gonna use the gun for, I really think it's the best choice for you, and this suggestion is definitely based on experience.........

ohioghog, Bear Basin outfitters www.bearbasin.com has the 8-32 Burris Signature with the fine flex reticle in matte for 459.00 and that includes shipping! Hard to beat that price! Also they have the best prices I've found on Leupolds and they also have the Weavers. GHD 0
