Chinese or Yugo SKS??
I can buy a Yugo non-issued SKS for $159 or a used chinese SKS with 2 30 round clips and a ten round clip for $179. Any insights or thoughts on either weapon?.......Thanks

Go with the chinese sks. 0 -
Chinese SKS usually has a chrome-lined bore which increases its service life and only has a bayonet lug which allows you one additional "evil feature" (ie: a detachable magazine, pistol grip stock). Accuracy is good and reliability is good
Yugo SKS usually are manufactured to closer tolerances and shoot better. They are also unique in having a grenade launcher. The presence of the bayo/lug and the grenade launcher prevents you from being able to legally use the detachable mag or a pistol grip style stock)
Basically it really depends on what you want to do with it. For a rifle to "trick out" and spray lead with go with the Norinco. For a good shooter that is unique and accurate, go with the Yugo.

$179 for a Chinese sounds pretty good. Assuming it's not too beat up. They've been running higher and higher. $250+ usually.

chinese - the yugos have trouble (sometimes) with the adjustable gas system. you can't get spare parts that may be unique to the yugo. if you are willing to go $300-350 you can find a paratrooper (16" barrel)or a sks sporter (16" barrel and takes ak mags) or a russian sks which is more collectable. a run of the mill chinese will hold its value but either of the 3 I just mentioned will probably go up in value.

Uhmmm...it's tecnically illegal to put a detatchable magazine on an SKS with a bayonet lug. See legalities below.

Go for Chinese one. I have one and have experienced zero problems with it. Come to think of it, everyone I know with a Chinese SKS has never had any problems whatsoever.
Some advice though: stick with the 10-round internal magazine. Aside from the legal issues, the thirty-rounders may cause feeding problems.0 -
I concur with monkey man. Chinese is the way to go. You may want to pick up a fixed 20rd mag. I highly doubt those 30rd mags it comes with work. I have a post ban Norinco SKS paratrooper. Shoots great! With any SKS make sure you clean it real good before shooting & be sure to check the barrel for obstructions. Many of these SKS rifles come packed in cosmoline or bearing grease. Also with either type figure on running 500rds through it to make it really shoot good. The parts need to wear together a little bit.

If you go with a detachable mag, use the USA mags. They are a little more expensive than the others, but I have never had a failure to feed with one and I've used them on several different SKS rifles. .02

Joe you must've got lucky with your USA mag. I got about 12 sitting around the house that don't work.

I got about 14 of em and haven't had any problems. Do you want to rid yourself of those pesky USA mags by any chance?[;)]
