Bid retraction part 2
I realize the first post was locked and this one will be too, I just wanted to say that as a long time ebay seller, I have gotten use to bid retractions. I would much rather have somebody retract his or her bid than win the auction and never pay, there by causing me a minimum of 20 days, and two forms to recoup my fees.
1. There is no insertion fee on this site
2. A FVF is only charged if the auction ends with a winning bidder. By retracting/canceling my bid there is no FVF. (hence no harm no foul)
3. Your bid is only a contract if you are the high bidder at auction end. A bid is no more a binding contract than the seller listing the item is is. The auction has to end before it is binding.
4. It was my bad; I had a couple of hundred and a gun lined out at 125.00. I got offered a killer deal on a 9mm at 225.00. I was not going to pass it up.
5. The auction had not ended; it had close to 48 hours to go.
6. Say what you want flame me up, the point is I made a mistake, its not the first, and wont be the last. I tried to do the right thing and make contact with the seller well before auction end.
7. There where a lot of post regarding trouble for the seller to ask to have the bid retracted. What?s more trouble the bid retraction or the process to request and get your FVF credit?

3. No when you bid it is a binding agreement, you are stating by bidding that I will absolutely give XXX amount for it. If you bid thinking you will be outbid, then you go buy something else (which is what it sounded like you did), the seller could end the auction early and now you're the winning bidder. If you don't believe that bidding is a binding contract, check the user agreements. If you still don't consult an attorney. My sister in law (an attorney) is quoting me statutes as I type...
I've had to let some stuff slip by before because 2 things were advertised and I could only afford one. Luckily, I got one of them, but for all I knew, I could have not bid on one because I might not win the other.
It is respectable to try to do the right thing and cancel your bid, again, you shouldn't have put yourself in that position to start with.
Depending on my mood, I won't allow a seller to cancel a bid, I'll just wait it out and then give him bad feedback. After a few times of that, and you'll lose your bidding priveledge.
I just hope you learned from it, and don't become a perpetual deadbeat buyer.0 -
Another thing to consider. Twice I have been outbid by someone in an auction then the winning bidder backed out. The dealers contacted me and said they'd take my bid... but I could never be certain whether my bid was being run up on me so I declined both times. Bid retractions can cause an aire of mistrust throughout the whole auction community. IF you bid, suck it up and live with it... otherwise don't bid. There's always an excuse. - 0 -
I did not bid thinking I would get outbid, I bid thinking I would like to have it and I had the money, **** happens I dont have the money.
Sure your bid is binding, but only if the contract is completed. If the seller decides not to sell the item is my bid still a binding contract no.
Understand the auction was no where near over, whats the problem?

So your saying if I want to be an asshole or not. I would rather have to file a NPB,and then a FVF. I just dont understand the mentality.
I stand by it, things happen and people change their mind, in my mind its petty squash it. I have seen it many times in the past two years somebody cancled a bid big deal am I going to cry about it no.
On the other hand it makes me mad when a buyer wins the auction and doesnt pay, that when he becomes a NPB, not before. It cause more trouble than if he had just retracted the bid.0 -

I have no idea if you handle all of your financial affairs in the same poor manner that you have handled this. Others on this forum will be kinder to you and tell you in a nice way that you acting like a spoiled child. YOU BID ON YOU PAY FOR IT. If you do not honor your bid than be man enough to get out and stay out, 0 -
