The current Std Cat. shows the Hi Standard, Double Nine, Mod W-100 thru W-104 as: Exc=175 VG=140 Good=100. There is a premium of $20 for Nickel finish. Made 1958-1970. Hope this helps.

The High Standard Double Nine W-101 is the second version (after the W-100) and if memory serves differs from the W-100 in the hammer mechanism. Major distinctions between it and the W-102 are the finish (matte black to "Onyx" semi-gloss black on the frame) and the latter model's spring-loaded ejector. ( Earlier guns with the manual ejector are often found with an ejector scar on the left side of the frame.)
I have seen exc or better matching box and papers W-101 guns, matte, sell in the past two years for $200 - $275 (pretty wide range). Absence of an ejector scar is a big plus. Nickel W-101s, vg or better, with no box, usually bring about the same. The nickel guns in all the HS revolver models bring a premium.
Be very careful about relying on the price guides, as some of them are way off on these guns. One of the best known guides still lists guns in finishes that never existed, and fails to make distinctions that have a major impact on value. While the Standard Catalog is pretty good (the editor has been getting info from the HS Collector's Ass'n) there is a big difference between the W-100/101 and the W-104s.
By the way, these are nice little revolvers with many advanced features. The only major gaffe in the design was the manual ejector (not spring-loaded), which was cured in the W-102 and R-102 models. The original design was done by Harry Siefried, who later worked for Ruger for many years. Sears owned a bunch of High Standard stock, and wanted a revolver to fit a notch below Colt and S&W, but well above the cheapo imports. The revolvers sold by Sears were the Model 88 and the Model 90, in many variations.
