S&W Mountain Gun 45 acp

Just wondering if these have gone up in value. They seem to be a bit hard to come by.

  I'd think that the early Mountain Guns, with the traditional "hammer nose" firing pins would continue to bring a premium over the newer ones made since the advent of MIM (Metal Injection Molding) parts and floating (frame mounted) firing pins. That should hold true for many years to come, but things don't always work out the way they should, right?
  
  I know that if I were in the market for a Mountain Gun, and had a choice of old or new, that regardless of caliber, I'd want the older one.... Why? I don't think the savings in production costs of the newer MIM era guns was the best decision made by S&W to attract buyers.
  
  That's my opinion anyway......

  The .45 acp Mountain Gun is a newer model. I do not beleive it was ever made with the older style hammer. Mine does have the MIM parts, but does not have the new integral "safety".

  A .45 ACP Mountain Gun? What kind of mountain do you hunt with one of them? Geez, these marketing types are unbelievable. It's just a 625 with a 4" barrel. Sheesh! I guess that means my 4" GP 100 is a Hill Gun. Does this mean a 4" M-29 is a mountain gun too? No offense, but 4" 625's and Model 25's and 29's have been around since before.
  As to its value, if you find a buyer who desparately wants one and will pay more, then yes, it's gone up in value. Mind you, a quick net search shows one at $589 USD. Here: http://www.harrisoncarroll.com/ Sounds like a reasonable price to me.

  Sunray, you got me to thinking. I always thought the 625 with the 4in tapered barrel in 45 Colt was the Mountain Gun introduced in 1996. The light contoured barrel and lack of full lug knocked off a little weight making it a little easier to carry by the end of a long day of packing in the mtns. The marketing genuises at S&W must have tried to capitalize on this in 2000 by offering it in 45 ACP.

  Right on, Punchie. I have a pair. They are of the new internal design and tapered barrels. The reason that there aren't too many floating around is that they are an "S&W Stocking Dealer restricted item" and not readily available to just any FFL. If one likes "N" Frame Smiths they will find nothing to criticize about this revolver. No--mine aren't for sale!

  Hmmm.... I guess the only thing S&W made in .45 ACP in the "Mountain Gun" configuration with the old style hammer nose firing pin was the Lew Horton/Springfield Armory "Arms for the Nation" Bicentennial special in '94.

  Mine does have the MIM hammer and trigger. The revolver is very tight, very accurate. Great gun
