Yes the weaver is a fixed 36power. It has the target knobs and adj obj. As far as target scopes goes, that scope seems to appear just as much or more at the matches as the leupold target scopes. The adjustments are the companies finest, which incidently is the same adjustment system as their tactical models.
I personaly like higher power scopes, especially for load developement. I also don't see what all the fuss is about field of view. I pick the spot on the animal where I want the bullet hole, and tunnel my vision through the crosshairs at that one point. 36X will do anything you want it too, all the way out to, and beyond 1000yds.
However, if you wish to have a varaible scope, as was suggested by myslef and GHD, the burris signature for that price is head and shoulders above a $450 leupold. When you compare scopes, you have to compare apples to apples, and taking into account the price you mentioned, ...I'd take the burris. I traded a xari-x III 4.5-14X50 for 8 boxes of match ammo and a cheap bushnell scope once I got my burris signature. I have more power range, a tougher main tube, a posi-lock feature, and an illuminated reticle with the same lifetime warranty, for less money.
On another note, the Weaver Grand Slam series are getting some rave reviews from the long range crowd. I like the 6-20 model, and will probably have one sitting on top of something within the next year.
