S & W 22A Shot OUT!

I bought a S&W 22A about 6 years ago and figure it has had close to 150,000+ rounds shot through it or more for a couple years there I was shooting a couple bricks of 22LR throught it a week well it has been re done, re worked, re everything but now it is time to move on i want to buy a new target 22LR pistol semi-auto been looking at rugers, brownings and smiths so any one have any recomendations I am leaning towards getting another S&W just becasue i have had so much success with this gun but willing to look at / buy something else????

  Well, if you're willing to spend the money you might look at the Sig Trailside, a bit on the high side of the price tag but I have heard they are great on accuracy. I have personally been thinking of buying another Hi-Standard .22 pistol the previous one I owned worked great and was accurate.

  If you like the S&W 22, then I think you'd love the model 41 target pistol. I think the S&W .22lr autos are among the best balanced pistol. I have several, I like the 422, 622, and 2206 too. I still want a 41, and they still make them, so they should be readily available.

  All of your potential choices are good. You will find that the Ruger will give you more for your money and will outlast anything else. It may (or may not) be up to the precision accuracy of the others (debatable), but unless you are in the distinguished expert class you will not be better than the pistol.
  I have no financial relationship with Ruger; I just own and shoot several of them.

  For balance and value, I'd stay with Smith and Wesson, or go to a Browning. You could buy 2 or 3 22A's for the price of a model 41 or the Sig Trailside. I have a 422 S&W that is a great gun. I haven't shot 150,000 rounds through it yet though. Beretta has a nice 22 in the U22. I haven't known anyone who put it through alot of use yet to see how it holds up. It is priced close to the Brownings though.

  I have both the model 22a and model 41 and love them both!
  As far as accuracy, the 41 is the gun to go with but the 22a with the target bull barrel is quite close. I just purchased a new barrel from S&W for the 22, as it is SOOOO easy to change. The cost of the barrel was 109.95 plus S&H ( this is the full round match barrel ) I would stick with the S&W. I do also own a Baretta, nice gun, but not the quality of the S&W Just my .02

  You must have a lot of free time. "A couple of bricks a week" would be 4,000 or so per month or 300,000 in six years. You must have missed a few weeks if you are figuring 150,000. Still a lot of shooting. I am trying to guess at how long it would take to load and shoot 1,000 rounds through a pistol. Maybe 1/2 hour per box of 50? You must spend, what, 10 hours each week shooting? Do you have to drive to and from the range or do you live in a rural ara where you can shoot on your own property? Ten hours of range time plus drive time? Do you have a job? Maybe you work at the shooting range?

  1/2 hour per box of 50? Naw you ought to be able to shoot & reload faster than that.

  ruger mark2 gov't target competition model. stainless, slabside, comes with rings and scope mount base. i believe i paid close to 400.00 about 8 years ago. it is the most accurate 22 pistol i have ever shot.

  Check out the Beretta Model 87 Target. Supposed to shoot like a dream accuracy-wise and they look cool as heck. If you want the ultimate in accuracy though, and dont mind spending a bit, I'd pony up for a Marvel .22 conversion on a 1911 frame. Both have the advantage of have the same grip and feel of full-size combat handguns.

  Wagion, at my local dealer they had several types of 22a barrels. They had the blued and also the matte silver one. They also had them in several different lengths. Prices started at $89 for a new blued one, the silver one was more, but it looked like a bull barrel. I can get more info if you decide to rebarrel it.
