Ever hear of something like this??

My good friend brought out some guns that have been in storage for years. One gun was like something I have never seen or heard of. At first glance it looks like a single shot, bolt action .22 rifle, but the barrel looks like a .410 shotgun and is approximately 23 1/2" long. I inserted a rod in the barrel and there appears to be 3 inches or so that extends beyond the chamber into the barrel. The rifle will accept a .22 long rifle or shot shell but it seems to be a litle "loose", a .22 magnum will not chamber because it is too large. No rear sight, only a small brass shotgun type bead on the end of the barrel. There are no marks on the rifle except a "2" and a "small square figure" on the tigger assembly. The purpose of this gun seems to be shooting only shot shells, certainly a regular .22 rim fire with a bullet wouldn't make much sense. No serial number or proof marks or anything else. Maybe its purpose was to shoot blanks? I would like to know if anyone knows anything about this type of set-up or ever seen anything similar. Maybe some creative person made this in a machine shop? Its in descent but not great shape. Interesting to say the least. It is cleaning up just fine.

  Yes, over the years I have seen several of these "for shot only" rifles. Remington and Winchester both made them from about 1890-1920. There were also several different models made in Europe. They were chambered for the .22 rimfire shot cartridge as well as the 9MM shot cartridge. They were used for pest control and some exhibition shooters used them to break glass balls thrown into the air. The shot cartridges were safer to use for aerial targets then would be a solid bullet. Without a full discription or good pictures it is impossible to say which one you have.

  It's possible that its a .22 WRF Shot Shell...Hav'nt a clue as to who made the gun..........
