The model 57 was introduced in 1964. Your model 57 was built in 1981.
In 1982 the 57-1 came along with elimination of the cylinder counterbore, and pinned barrel, also a change in the cylinder length to 1.67". Nickel finished was eliminated in 1986.

In 1988 the 57-2 introduced a new yoke retention, radius stud package, and floating hand.

In 1990 the 57-3 began with a longer stop notch in the cylinder, then in 1992 they deleted the 4" and 8 3/8" barrels, and went to blue finish only.

Smith ceased production of the model 57's in 1993.

Thank you your help, and thanks for the welcome. I have been out of the shooting sports for a few years.(I have been back to enjoying shooting for the past year and a half.)I am also VERY new to online forums. I feel like a kid in a candy store, it's great.
