10/22 target vs standard ?
My uncle who so generously gave me the Browning Lightning has expressed an interest in a Ruger 10/22 target model for hunting squirrel. Is there any functional difference in the action between the 10/22T and the standard model? I have a standard model that I would like to give him which made one large hole in the target from bench rest at 50 yards, which seems to be plenty accurate to me. I wonder if the trigger might be smoother on the target model though? Opinions or facts? Thank you in advance.

I have the current target (heavy hammer forged barrel) model and an older stainless model (1991). I can't tell any difference between them in any functionality.
I think I read it on Rugers site that they were commenting how thier 10/22 has remained unchanged since it was introduced. I think they were meaning the basic action. Is he wanting the target model for the heavy barrel? I shoot heavy barreled guns MUCH better than sporter weight. Also keep in mind that there is virtually any conceiveable combination of available upgrades or modifications for the 10/22. You can get a new hammer and/or sear to help with any trigger grievances he might have.0 -
I ALSO HAVE THE 10/22T, HAMMER FORGED BARREL, LAMINATE STOCK. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. ACCORDING TO RUGER, THE ACTION IS MADE TO TIGHTER TOLERANCE THAN THE STANDARD 10/22. THAT IS THE ONLY DIFF. ACCORDING TO RUGER. 0 -
Not to leap in and proffer unwanted advice; but I can't help myself in this case.
1.Your Uncle deserves a good-shootin' rifle
2.Yours shoots very well
3.He THINKS He needs a Target Model.
4.If you stone (lightly) the surfaces on yours or drop in a Volqs kit; it will shoot smoother than the TM.
5.Let him shoot it-He'll want it!

I agree, use the regular model for hunting varmints, it's lighter and still accurate enough to hit the little bugger. 0
