MAS 308
so how does a MAS 308 compare with a springfield M1 308?

"...springfield M1..." As in Garand or M1A? That's a lot of "converting" for $200. I'd lean towards the MAS the way it was intended, but use a Garand or my M-14. Just remember you get what you pay for. 0 -
The MAS rifles that were converted for 7.5mm to .308 were for issue to French troops stationed in Germany, the reason was so that they could use the NATO 7.62mm x 51mm ammo. You will find these weapons are being imported into the US by several firms. The Springfield 30-06 is a far better weapon, if you are looking for a semi-auto you have a choice between the clip fed M1 in 30-06 or the mnagazine fed M14 in .308 or 7.62mm x 51mm, stick to the American weapon, more money, better weapon and our weapons have been fired. 0
