Wood For a turkey call

Wondering how to go about "curing" or drying a piece of raw wood for a turkey call.

Seems like I read or heard about being able to dry wood in a Microwave oven.

Appreciate information on how to figure the heat and time for "fresh" wood with out doing damage to our Microwave oven.

Living here in Florida I will probably use a piece of Cypress or maybe what I call Salt Myrtle.

  hey 11th; I can't shed any light on curing wood, but I can give you a name and number of someone who caught his house on fire by putting some in the microwave. It was real nasty.
  
  I'm not saying that it won't work, just be careful.
  one would think you could do it in the regular oven.

  The wood that you want for a turkey call is a piece of clear (no knots) cedar. I never heard of drying wood in a microwave, but, think that it could most likely be done in the oven, if you can get the heat low enough and take enough time. When done the wood should still have a moisture content of 6%-8%. There is no quick way to do this and I would think that you would be better off just to buy a piece of kiln dried wood and go from there.

  Thanks for your reply. Feel sure that you are correct about cedar being the best and that it is available "right-now".
  
  The last calls we made were from Honduran mohogany. They worked well.
  
  The decision to make another call is just a "rainy day" projecct more to just see if I could take the project from the tree to completion. Wanted to try to hurry the process of getting the wood ready to use rather than leaving it in the attic for months.
