Cam anyone tell me what a real Walther PPK is worth these days? It is made in W. Germany and is a 9mm. 0 -
They are decent guns, a bit on the low powered side, but the one I have as never jamed up except once on a reloaded round that wasn't sized properly but I don't count that one. 0 -
Had a german made one - never a problem (I kick myself for trading it). I don't know about the new Smith made ones....

the new PPK IS GREAT i really like it. they are a little tight when new but after 200 rds they are really smooth out. Randy W.[:D] 0 -
While for many years they were considered the best, the design is now somewhat dated. They are a little too large, a little too heavy, a little too underpowered, and a little too expensive to be very competitive today. You can get a compact 9mm or .40 cal that is smaller, and for the same money. I guess I'm a wimp, but I don't like the way the .380 "bites" my hand.
That having been said, the German-made guns are absolutely beautiful. I'd avoid a US-made gun, as factory service is not available for them.

The Walther design is a good weapon, my wife has one that is a pre war 7.65mm and she enjoys shooting it but neither of us would consider it for a self defense weapon. However that being said we both have Bulgarian Makarov's and we use Russian 120 gr. JHP in the 9mm x 18mm and it is a real butt kicker, it is for all intent and purpose a copy of the Walther design and they cost under $250. 0 -
For same size or smaller, I would rather carry a Kahr 9mm.

PPK is reliable and plenty accurate enough for it's intended use, which is close range self defense. Very few guns are easier to carry. There is also something cool about having James Bond's favorite gun....
I personally prefer a larger caliber. I have a PPK and a Kahr MK40. As to the size difference, the Walther is much slimmer, somewhat lighter and more easy to carry. Not nearly as powerful tho.0 -
I have a PPKS I've toted for many years. Great little hideout guns, plenty acro for intended use. Very reliable. What more could you want, more power? get a .40 or .45 Glock, but they are not a work of art like this little gun!!

The new gun is a ppk/s-1, and it is made by S&W. They will service it and stand behind it. I have one, and I have had (knock wood) no problems with it. The Interarms manufactured models are really hit or miss.
You can find used PPs in 7.65 for under $300.00.
As far as "stopping power", everything is a compromise. Hornady makes a .32 cartridge as good as a .380.
As far as the kick, it is a blowback design; it will have a kick greater than locked breech designs. However, that makes it a simpler weapon, and less prone to failure.0
